Nicola boud
Clarinet
Born in Perth, Nicola obtained her Bachelor of Music with first class honours from the University of Western Australia in 1999, and was subsequently awarded the Edith Cowan Prize for performance and musicology. It was during her studies that Nicola began to play occasionally with the Australian Chamber Orchestra both on modern and historical clarinets. Her curiosity for early clarinet took her to the Netherlands, where in 2004 she completed her Masters in historical performance at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, with Eric Hoeprich.
Now based in Paris, Nicola plays with many orchestras and ensembles, including l’Orchestre des Champs-Elysées (Philippe Herreweghe) where she is principal clarinet, Freiburger Barockorchester , Le Cercle de l’Harmonie, La Chambre Philharmonique, Le Concert Spirituel, Il Gardellino, l’Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, and Anima Eterna. Nicola is also an active chamber musician, appearing at the festivals of Utrecht, Bruges, Saintes, Accademia delle Crete Senesi, Uusikaupunki, and Deauville. She plays regularly with the Cambini and Edding String Quartets, the latter with whom in 2009 she recorded the Mozart Clarinet Quintet for the label Etcetera.
In 2009 she performed the Mozart concerto at the Theatre des Champs Elysées in Paris, and at the festivals of Lessay, and Athens. She also teaches regularly at the Abbaye aux Dames in Saintes, France, for the Formation Supérieure, a course specializing in late classical and romantic repertoire, and is a guest teacher at the Musikhochschule in Trossingen.
